U.B.C. 1997 — Uniform Building Code

Excerpts of the U.B.C. code for Positive Attachment of lighting fixtures to suspended ceiling grids published in 1997.

The Uniform Building Code (UBC) was the first major building code to establish requirements for seismic restraint of lighting fixtures in suspended ceiling systems.

UBC Section 25-2: "All lighting fixtures shall be positively attached to the suspended ceiling system. The attachment device shall have a capacity of 100 percent of the lighting fixture weight acting in any direction."

The SFC complies with UBC 1997 Section 25.213.
